Team/JackLab is looking for...
---testers, scripters, programers, optimizers, packers and translators---
We pursue the target to give openSUSE Linux an optimal add-on for audio/media production, like aGNUIa for Debian or Planet CCRMA for RedHat/Fedora Core. We are doing this voluntarily and without payment, up to now with 3 people for one year, with a huge acceptance by the SuSE Linux users.
Do you want "just make some music"?
In the meantime you learned working with Linux to some extent. You can administer it by yourself, are well versed with the common software, you are familiar with the concept. You know the complex system of jack and know how to work with it. You can produce and reproduce musical events with QJackCtl, Rosegarden-4, MusE, Hydrogen, Ardour, pd etc., and you are not afraid of the console. You have a mind to test the newest builds, talk about or criticise them.
Annotation: Only computers compatibele with recent openSUSE Linux should be used as reference systems for testing. Maybe the rpm's are running on other versions or platforms, but for the time being it is important to test ONE widespread standard system, as we compile and pack for this platform. You should have broadband internet, as you may have to download s huge amounts of data sometimes. Furthermore we need your email adress, so we can send you the newest unreleased builds. So, when you are willing to document/communicate your testing results e.g. in IRC:
Write an email now to //laney at gmx dot ch//, or join in //irc.freenode.net #jacklab// and we will contact you as soon as possible.
You are getting a kick out of forcing the kernel to top level performance?
We are looking for people who have the time, talent and desire to optimize the kernel for the needs of special applications. You want to muck about audio/video optimizing, are in contact with the common dev-groups, and are willing to help making a big step in the history of music/media production with Linux. Ideally you have experience in building kernels for Linux
You have practical experience with programming/scripting using Linux?
There are so many things that have to be done. But you must be flexible enough to get used to new libraries sometimes. The plug-in range needs many creative programmers too, so when e.g. sound always fascinated you, Linux will give you a huge play-ground. But even if you know some scripts, the user will get to know the software better.
You like compiling and optimizing more?
You have compiled and packaged programs, which have strange dependencies. Or you can optimize processes or write download scripts. Absolutely necessary is setting the proper rights for user/real-time processes. This is not trivial concerning audio real-time processes.
Maybe you have contacts or communicational talents or you have new concepts for audio and media you want to bring in the project
Translations of the web-site are important! So, if you are familiar with a german, english/european combination of language, you can start NOW as a registered user to work in the Wiki and Forum.
So if you can work on the current Linux platfom, like to work in a team are competent and creative, your gratuitous and voluntary work is welcome. Write an email to //laney at gmx dot ch// or join in //irc.freenode.net #jacklab// and we will contact you sap.
