ProAudio Software
From JackLab UserWiki
This is a database, where you can find special music-RPM's compiled by free rpm packer. It will be administeres by a repository and updated regularly. You can find there rpms for beta-testers and users. The software released for use may not be bug-free, as we will make availble very early versions. It will be your choise to decide, if a early version will work for you.
Furthermore musicians working with these programs will write subjective summaries and reviews, to help the beginner finding his way through the varieties of Linux audio programs. Even for developers these can be interesting points of view.
The choice of programms is not limited to music and appendant tools. As production of music includes videos and printing cd covers, we will have a selection of appropriate programs, not specially compiled and packed for JackLab.
There even is the question of the look of the window manager (should be lightweighted e.g. e17, windowmaker or fluxbox) and some more. But as a whole the selection will be more user-specific than the SUSE default. The oftenly expressed whish not to be overcharged by the huge variety og SuSE packages can be fulfilled by these selections.
Suggestion for selections:
* jacklab all = all software packages * jacklab studio = common selection for a typical ProStudio * jacklab postpro =common selection for post production und mastering * jacklab earlybird =small selection for beginners easy to use and eyecandy
We pursue the target to put a cd-mirror (iso) to your disposal for download, with add-ons for music/mediaproduction with a simple script driven installation.
Maybe we will burn this cd, add a manual, put it in a box and sell it. This would enable people without a flat-rate to create a media machine with the newest version of SuSE Linux.
Of course nothing is better than using the database, even if you become a beta tester by doing so. You can express possible frustration over buggy software by giving constructive feedback in user-groups.
